The most prolific Academy Award show made its return last night after a year of disjointed celebrations filled with awkward Zoom acceptance speeches. And while the complete physical return of the award ceremony hasn’t been welcomed back post-pandemic just yet with all the usual fanfare, this year’s event was a reminder of life slowly creeping back to a time of hapless touch. Hosted by Steven Soderbegh, the director of Contagion, which felt all very meta, the carpet was rolled out once more for nominees and guests to rejoice in the return of glamour and thrill that comes from none other than the red carpet.
