#PerfectDiaries: Fashion photographer Giovanni Cardenas on celebrating Virgil Abloh and his favourite backstage shots.

At a flicker of a flash, one might view the most vulnerable, powerful, emotional in fashion, packaging a moment and holding onto it forever. New York-based fashion photographer Giovanni Cardenas has captured the most powerful models within their moments of becoming the enchanting muse.

With this instalment of #PerfectDiaries, we dive into Cardenas’ favourite images and his recollection of the moments before capturing them, setting the scene and explaining his mood and feelings backstage.

“This moment with Joel is one of the first instances I got to document backstage. The vulnerability on both our ends feels sincere here.”

“This was the show celebrating Virgil, in the moments spent with his team this felt like a look and attitude that evoked my feelings being surrounded by his creations.”

“This is the show right before the pandemic shut NYC down. The stare captured from 20 ft. away through the crowds, I felt like I was out on the streets.”

“Monochromatic moments always make excited, especially when they happen in a blink of an eye.”

“This show felt like i was back in Berlin, the excitement and interaction was amazing making genuine moments like this.”

“This was during a fitting session before the presentation photoshoot, rather than dunway. Capturing Anok before she headed to the atelier to get her final fit.”

“The way the light from above hit the model as she took a quick rest, and the stillness of her gaze.”
