SS22: Nensi Dojaka.
Nensi Dojaka’s highly anticipated first solo show, after being at Fashion East, kicked off London Fashion Week, setting the bar for collections to come. Staged within the TikTok space on Old Selfridges hotel - which once resembled an empty, hollow shell of a building, now regenerated into Nensi’s own underground, club-like haven. Where pulsating techno music filled the air and vibrated through the floors - an apt surrounding for the sexy, sophisticated and empowering collection she was to show, and the perfect environment for the typical Nensi Dojaka woman.
The Algerian-born designer, and 2019 Central Saint Martin’s MA graduate, is already widely celebrated for her signature technique in layering sheer fabrics and deconstructing panelling. Crafting delicately feminine yet bold, modern and unafraid garments that have drawn international recognition - fortunately her SS22 show did not fall short. The 31 look collection saw Dojaka present both her staple Little Black Dresses into the mix - confident in its already revelling success - but also various new ventures into tailoring, and with an added pop of colour too; sheer, strappy black mini dresses gripping tightly to the body like a second skin walked side by side with oversized blazers and wide legged suit trousers. The latter showcased in a variety of baby pinks and soft bronzes, complete with an ornate fuchsia belt-like embroidery clinching the waist in. The Nensi Dojaka woman has clearly evolved from her monochromatic past.
The recent LVMH emerging talent prize winner's future is set in stone. The pressure is on to prove that she is more than just last season’s ‘It-girl’ label. But if Friday’s show had one thing to say, it’s that Nensi Dojaka’s future is already looking bright. Now armed with the giant LVMH group’s backing and year-long mentorship, the best is surely yet to come.
