Daniel Roseberry’s vulnerable love letter of creation is the frontier of Schiaparelli AW22.
A cascade of glimmering memories and dreamlike crafting were the forefront of Daniel Roseberry’s feelings towards this couture collection. In an open letter, the designer expressed that fashion has recently taken more and more of a social stance, expressing and driving for bigger and bolder statements about the world. His intentions with this collection is to unlock fashion’s other side that we maybe have put on the back burner - the ambiguously beautiful, transporting, and heartfelt side that urges one to unlock multiple dimensions of their own self across a myriad of altruistic realities. Echoing the words of Roseberry, “Fashion is silly at times. It's also provocative, upending, challenging, and meaningful. It's breathtaking. It's beautiful.”
Crafting a dream-like spectacle from those feelings, models cascaded from above onto the catwalk, drifting to a soundtrack reminiscent of a Hans Zimmer old-school idyllic romance, where the protagonists are voicing beautiful symphonies of endearment. The clothes, speaking onto the plot of a crafted beauty - the opening look inspired by Elsa Schiaparelli’s archives, consisting of short, sharply tailored black jacket and silk-crepe skirt set under a champagne double satin corset, finished with two black bows and a shiny braided black boater hat.
Feeling like the ultimate protagonist to your personal fantasy, the clothes honoured the moving parts of Elsa Schiaparelli’s vulnerability and life. Such features also included her adornment for flowers, seeing them as the ultimate frontier of beauty, covering herself with them all around. Roseberry recreated rigorous tailoring under a bed of hand-painted silk sequined sunflowers, and blooming roses - an epitome of adoration.
Through a phantasmagoria and striking detailing, the final two looks created a symbiotic finale towards the dream shifting you back into reality, with a model in a long dark blue velvet skirt holding out a moulded leather white dove, carrying an olive branch - a universal language of bringing peace into the universe, followed by an asymmetrical corset in red silk is attached to a long skirt in red velvet with a red lacquered anatomical heart pendant bringing it all back to the prevailing feeling of our existence - love.
