It’s time to delete TikTok and start listening to podcasts.
If you’ve made it to this page, I commend you. Our capacity to stay focussed was already on a downhill trajectory but since lockdown and the birth of TikTok, we’ve got no chance. Dubbed as “Digital Crack Cocaine” by Forbes, TikTok is literally altering our brains. In an article for Forbes, USC professor and author Dr. Julie Albright explains, “Our brains are changing based on this interaction with digital technologies and one of these is time compression. Our attention spans are lowering.”
There you have it, proof that you should delete TikTok and have a listen to the below list of Perfect podcasts that are guaranteed to make you feel smarter.
This American Life
“A weekly public radio program and podcast. Each week we choose a theme and put together different kinds of stories on said theme.
If you’re brand new to our show, you might start with the list of episodes our host Ira Glass put together called “New to This American Life?” We’ve been on the air since 1995, so you can also browse through our recommended lists or our entire archive of more than 700 episodes.”
Call Her Daddy
“Call Her Daddy started as a podcast and evolved into a global movement. Alex Cooper bulldozed a lane of her own, spitting in the face of misogyny and putting a modern twist on feminism.”
Guests include Julia Fox, Anna Delvey, Euphoria’s Chloe Cherry, Jamie Lynn Spears and more.
Harsh Reality: The Story of Miriam Rivera
“It was supposed to be a reality show with a twist. In a sun-drenched villa in Ibiza, six hot guys compete for a cash prize and for the love of the beautiful and mysterious Miriam. It’s meant to be her big break: the moment she becomes the superstar she was born to be. But this is the era of “cruel reality TV” and the show producers have a different goal: they want to surprise the men with the fact that Miriam is trans.
This six-episode investigative series is the story about love, lies, reality TV and a woman before her time: Miriam Rivera. Written by Agnes Borinsky and hosted by Trace Lysette.”
WeCrashed
“The founders of WeWork thought they were on the brink of making history. The company was valued at $47 billion dollars, ready for a huge IPO, and its charismatic CEO Adam Neumann believed he was going to change the world. Adam and his wife Rebekah had a prophet-like vision—but did it ever match the company's reality? Now the inspiration for a new AppleTV+ series starring Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway, WeCrashed: The Director’s Cut is a complete refresh of our original six-part series. Hosted by David Brown of the hit podcast Business Wars, this six-part series includes new interviews and new discoveries about the rise and fall of WeWork. It’s a story of hope and hubris, big money and bigger screwups, and the lengths people will go to chase “unicorns".”
Still Processing
“Wesley Morris and Jenna Wortham are working it out in this weekly show about culture in the broadest sense. That means television, film, books, music — but also the culture of work, dating, the internet and how those all fit together.”
Hidden Brain
“Shankar Vedantam uses science and storytelling to reveal the unconscious patterns that drive human behaviour, shape our choices and direct our relationships.”
The A24 Podcast
“No host, no ads, no rules. From the people behind The Green Knight, Midsommar, Uncut Gems, HBO's Euphoria, Hereditary, Moonlight, and more.”
Guests include Alexa Demie, Sofia Coppola, Josh Safdie and more.
Diary of a CEO
“This podcast is simple, every week I’m going to share insights with you from guests with different backgrounds, experiences and learnings. I want to give you a look into what it’s like behind the scenes, being an entrepreneur, the deep, dark thoughts that nobody else will share with you and anything else that’s playing on my mind. This is not scripted and I don't have questions I just see where the conversation takes me. This is the diary of a CEO, I’m Steven Bartlett. I hope nobody is listening, but if you are… keep this to yourself.”
